Immigration Museum

In May 2014, the Immigration Museum of State of São Paulo reopened with a new museum plan and long-term exhibition to tell the story of the over 2.5 million immigrants from over 70 countries who arrived in the port of Santos in the 19th and 20th centuries.

The eight modules comprising the exhibit Migrar: experiências, memórias e identidades portrays the daily life of those lodged at the Immigrant Inn in the downtown Brás district, a collection of the stories and contributions from a diverse group of cultures, surnames, accents, customs and flavors that helped form the state and city of São Paulo.

The project won the Bid_14 Award from the Fundación Diseño Madrid with its innovative museum plan created by Expomus and Estúdio Preto & Branco. We developed three interactive displays using technological resources that enabled visitors to stroll through the history of immigration and the diversity among those who chose São Paulo as home.
